Is Shaun Deeb on the Verge of Wrapping Up the 2025 WSOP PoY Race?

Benny Glaser, Scott Bohlman, Martin Kabrhel, and Shaun Deeb. Those have been the four names trading spots at the top of the 2025 World Series of Poker Player of the Year leaderboard.

But by the end of Sunday's action, Deeb could have his three closest competitors drawing thin.

Just three days removed from capturing his seventh career bracelet, Deeb is now on the verge of number eight, and with it, the inside track to yet another WSOP Player of the Year crown. He leads the final three in Event #84: $1,000 No-Limit Hold'em, a tournament that was supposed to wrap up last night but needed an extra day to determine a winner.

Deeb returns to the Horseshoe Events Center at 2 p.m. local time with more than half the chips in play, holding 21,200,000. Zdenek Zizka (12,500,000) and Jeffrey Thoney (3,800,000) stand between him and the $232,498 first-place prize, and a Player of the Year race that is becoming his to lose.

Huge Points to Follow for Deeb

According to the WSOP PoY points calculator, Deeb has already secured at least 479 points for making it to the final three from a field of 1,873 entries in the $1K. If he goes the distance, he'll receive 1,064 points. There is one caveat — he won't technically get all of those points.

The new PoY scoring system, put in place last year, only counts a player's top 10 cashes. Deeb already has over 10 cashes, so the points he earns from the $1k will bump his current 10th-best score, which is worth 107.88 points, meaning he'll add approximately 956 points to his current overall score (1,064 - 107.88), if he secures the bracelet.

The future Poker Hall of Famer has even more points coming his way from a deep run in a WSOP Online event that hasn't been added to his PoY profile. Players are permitted to count their best online score toward the PoY tally, and Deeb’s total will grow by another ≈500 points for a runner-up finish in an online bracelet event (minus his ninth-best score, which is 108.53 points.

Glaser, already a three-time bracelet winner this summer, also has ≈200 additional points pending from a deep WSOP Online run. But for the Brit to reel in Deeb, he’ll likely need an unprecedented fourth bracelet of the series or a deep run in the WSOP Main Event.

Glaser does have one advantage over Deeb, and that is he's only cashed in five events this summer. So, each additional cash will be fully added to his score, as opposed to deducting the bottom scores.

Kabrhel and Bohlman will both need at least another bracelet win or a string of final tables to have any chance of stopping Deeb from becoming a two-time WSOP Player of the Year.

Deeb's 2025 WSOP Cashes (In Order of Best Finish)

Of course, Deeb's biggest moment of the series came from his $100K PLO victory, but he a few close calls before he reentered the winner's circle. Deeb also finished runner-up in the $1,500 Razz for $84,221 and narrowly missed another bracelet in the $10,000 Pot-Limit Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better Championship, placing third for $348,304.

Wherever Deeb finishes today, it'll be his 16th overall cash on the live felt of the summer, and will count towards his top 10 points results for the PoY race.
