Is This Player the Next Big Thing at the World Series of Poker?

Caleb Furth, known to most as Bruno, had already proven his chops on the felt before the 2025 World Series of Poker (WSOP). But he's taken his game to the next level this summer — or about three levels — and he might be just getting started.
The Las Vegas local won his first bracelet last year, a $265,361 score for taking down the $1,500 Pot-Limit Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better event, beating out 1,277 entrants. That victory was just the start of much bigger things to come.
Building a Legacy in Poker

Furth, who spoke to PokerNews on Sunday, is having a monster summer. He had about $1.3 million in prior live tournament cashes, according to The Hendon Mob. Just three weeks into the series, and he's nearly doubled his earnings.
He started the summer off by winning a bracelet in Event #5: $5,000 Pot-Limit Omaha for $620,696, a career-high score. The PLO specialist then took on a $2,200 pot-limit Omaha tournament at Wynn Las Vegas, which he won for $154,538, before finishing runner-up in WSOP Event #36: $10,000 Pot-Limit Omaha 8 or Better for $508,705.

Two bracelets, a Wynn title, and a few PGT final tables all within a year for a cash game specialist is stellar. Actually, it's pretty dang good for anyone. But does he care about his legacy in the game, or is he going to take the same route as many players over the past decade who made a buck and got out of poker?
"Honestly, at some point, money is not the main motivator," Furth said. "You hear the top players talk about it all the time. I'm new to the tournament scene. I'm still processing winning so much money in such a short period of time. I'm used to winning or losing a couple thousand at a time. Sometimes, a couple tens of thousands at a time."
"But I'm playing poker for the money. It's my job. I like the reputation that I have around the community. Everyone knows that I'm a ridiculous person. You have to be to thrive in a community like poker."
2025 WSOP Player of the Year?

Furth, as of Sunday, is second in the 2025 WSOP Player of the Year standings with 2,021.1 points, just 14 points behind the leader, Benny Glaser, who won back-to-back bracelets earlier this month.
Furth admitted he's going to have to make one adjustment to his strategy if he's going to catch Glaser and the other POY contenders.
"For me, it's just a question of if I play some no-limit tournaments," Furth explained. "I've been playing almost exclusively PLO for a couple years now, so I'm not really sure if I can compete in the no-limit tournaments. But I am planning on playing in the (Main Event), of course. So, it's probably worth going for it, playing a few no-limit tournaments, especially as practice, refinement before I play the Main as well."
Furth doesn't have a live no-limit hold'em tournament cash since 2023. He has played plenty of NLH in the past, but it isn't his specialty, and there are only so many Omaha variants on the 2025 WSOP schedule. But if he expands his horizon or continues to finish in the top two of the Omaha events, winning Player of the Year isn't out of the question.
Furth's having the type of start to the summer that would make any tournament grinder envious (except maybe Glaser). He said the bracelet win last year encouraged him to focus on tournaments more than he had in the past.
"For a long time I played just no-limit, and I've played a bunch of no-limit tournaments, and I cashed some, but I think I'm a small loser overall. Once I had some short success in PLO tournaments, yeah, just keep going, don't change what's working," Furth said.
If Furth's game continues to improve, he could be a mainstay among WSOP Player of the Year contenders for years to come.
