Doug Polk took his talents to the popular comedy podcast, Kill Tony, where he performed a one-minute stand-up set, and the brutally honest hosts came away impressed.

The poker pro and co-owner of Texas' The Lodge Card Club has found a new hobby, and it appears he might have the talent for stand-up comedy.

Kill Tony is one of the most popular podcasts in the world, ranking in the top 50 on the Spotify chart. Tony Hinchcliffe, a comedian, co-hosts the show he created in 2013. Aspiring comedians perform one-minute sets in front of Hinchcliffe and his co-hosts, who are often celebrity comedians. Those who crush it are given future opportunities to appear on the show.

Polk entered the high-pressure arena to perform his set in front of millions of viewers. He showed no signs of being unable to handle the nerve-racking experience.

"It's hard to live in Texas without hearing about the immigration debate. They're bringing in drugs, they're taking our jobs, we've got to do something about these Californians. We're gonna build a wall. We're gonna make New Mexico pay for it," Polk, who grew up in California but now lives in Texas, joked to open his set.

Polk mixed in some puns during his brief set, which shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone who has followed his YouTube channel the past decade.

"I'll tell you, I'm pretty sure I'm right here, I'm pretty sure that's the best set of the night from everybody," Hinchcliffe told the aspiring comedian. "Absolutely incredible, when you put your mind to it. You've been practicing for a month. We're buddies now. I met you that night."

Hinchcliffe then told the story about how he met the poker pro, and it involved a heads-up poker match. The world-class comedian explained that he met Polk at a bar about a month ago in what turned out to be a "crazy f*****g night."

He continued saying that while intoxicated, he met Polk and challenged him to a game of heads-up poker after learning Polk is one of the best in the world at that format. The two then played for $20,000, and Hinchcliffe pulled the upset in the first match. But the double-or-nothing second match went Polk's way, and the victory came with a one-minute set on Kill Tony.

Polk has dabbled in stand-up comedy a bit recently, not just on Kill Tony. He's also done some five-minute sets at the Odds Bar Bistro, a restaurant attached to The Lodge Card Club. But will he turn the stand-up gig into a new secondary career?

Polk told PokerNews he's going to "take it one day at a time," but he plans to "continue working at it."

The Upswing Poker founder said he will probably appear again on Kill Tony sometime in the "next couple months."
